Hello Sparks! We just wanted to share a letter we got from our friends at ASCA:
Greetings from ASCA! I hope everything is well wherever you may be.
My name is Iman Mahditama, the Communication Manager of Red Nose Foundation, an circus-based arts and education outreach organization in Jakarta, Indonesia. We work with more than 270 underprivileged children in two slums across Jakarta. Using the arts of circus, we help these children build dreams of a better future for themselves and their community.
Currently, I also serve the Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific Social Circus Association (ASCA – visit our blog here), an association for social circus groups (social, community, and for-profit) in the Asia-Pacific region. Founded in 2013, ASCA is committed to building a stable and reliable network for circus programs through the region and intends to be a reliable source of information and resources for its members.
Through this e-mail, I would like to inform you that audition is now open for the 2015 ASCA Volunteer Program and that ASCA would like to invite all circus friends and enthusiasts to audition for the Program.
If you wish to share this invitation to your circus friends and colleagues, you are welcome to do so.
ASCA expects to establish an effective and trustworthy volunteer placement program connecting keen and qualified volunteers with welcoming and worthwhile organizations.
In the 2015 Volunteer Program, three ASCA members will serve as volunteer hosts:
- RED NOSE FOUNDATION in Indonesia (http://www.rednosefoundation.org)
- PHARE PONLEU SELPAK in Cambodia (http://www.phareps.org/)
- MOBILE MINI CIRCUS FOR CHILDREN in Afghanistan (http://www.afghanmmcc.org/)
All volunteers will work with each organization for 1-5 months, totaling to 12 months of volunteering across Asia.
For volunteers, this will be a wonderful opportunity to contribute positively to the development of underprivileged and/or at-risk communities in third-world countries while also immersing themselves into the unique local cultures across Asia. Volunteers will focus on teaching the beneficiaries of each organization as well as capacity building with the organizations’ local staff.
Please find attached the application form of the Volunteer Program.
To apply, complete the form and email it to [email protected] before the end of November, after which ASCA will conduct a selection process to choose two to three volunteers to take part in the program.
Applicants to this program will also need to upload his or her circus audition video to Youtube or Facebook and provide the link in the application form.
To read a more detailed description of this volunteer program, including the eligibility requirement, please find attached the terms of reference (TOR).
Please note that incomplete Application Form will not be processed and that all selected volunteers are subject to rigorous background check.
We look forward to hearing from you! Contact us at [email protected] if you have any inquiry!
